What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.
I had very high expectations because I heard lots of good stuff about it and now I don’t really know what to think - it was a good book, without question, and I’m glad I read it!! (thank you, Melissa :D)

I really enjoyed reading it and I didn’t want to put it down, so no I’m not dissappointed but I expected a LITTLE more. Day and June are both likeable (main) characters but I feel like I don’t know enough about them - yes, it’s only the first book but I wanted to know more.

The story was good and thrilling and had its little twists but especially in the end I felt like the relationship between Day and June was kind of “forced” - it was cute that they kissed and fell for each other but a little fast I think. I wanted to explore their personality and get to know them better and get emotinal but it was just “not enough”.

I still really liked the book and I think the next parts have great potencial! I just really hope we find out more about the characters and their lifes and why they did the things they did, their backgrounds and and and. BUT let me point out that I absolutely loved Metias! And I was really, really sad about his early … ending.
